We stayed at the Kalispell LaQuinta 2 nights. Woo-who! Two nights in one place!! The motel was packed both nights due to a tour bus. We had booked months ago and got a kitchenette in the room so the first night we bought shrimp and had peel and eat.
We got oriented with a walk around the downtown area. Cute place with restaurants, library...then back to the motel for a restful evening.
This gorgeous little yarn shop right downtown has 2 or 3 condos for rent upstairs. We tried a couple of months ago to get one...but they book early in the year. |
Saturday we drove to Glacier National Park and "did" the Road to the Sun. Now, it was a Saturday in one of the 3 most popular months for visitors to the park...so we had some company. Still, the road was a "must do" in the park and we were only willing to spend one day here, so...

Lake McDonald rocks. We'd stopped on the shores specifically to see the colorful rocks by Lake McDonald. They looked most colorful underwater...and in the online photos. ;-) |

We both rated the road as #2 scariest we've driven with #1 being the Amalfi coast (that road was more narrow). Road to the sun offered fantastic views, but the kind that the camera couldn't do justice. We had downloaded the park podcasts before we got there and were able to listen to narrative as we made our way. We stopped at Sun Point for a lunch we'd packed and walked a while on the trail there.

That evening we went to Scotty's Bar and had a good meal of reubens and onion rings with a regional brew.
